“Be warned, my son….Of making many books there is no end….” (Ecclesiastes 12:11-3)
(I hate it when people take scripture out of context, but you have to admit, this is the perfect place to put it.)
Yes, indeed, there is no shortage of books in the world regarding ADD/ADHD. (Except for one, which I happen to be working on right now. Stay tuned.)
All the books I have listed here are ones which I have read and are currently on my bookshelf. I will expand the list as time permits. (And, yes, the amazon.com affiliate links help me to fund my website.)
My favorite ADD/ADHD books that I frequently recommend to my clients:
By: Dr. Edward Hallowell & Dr. John Ratey
Published in 1994, this was the first book for adults who had not grown out of their childhood ADD/ADHD. Relatively speaking, this book has not been on the market for many years, but it is considered a class its field. I usually recommend this book to a client who I suspect may have ADD/ADHD and ask them to read it before discussing getting them evaluated. My clients usually come back and say, “Now it all makes sense!” Filled with examples and case studies, the authors clearly describes the experience of living with ADD/ADHD and offers some solutions and strategies. If you’re wondering, this could be a good place to start.

Another great book by Hallowell and Ratey. I actually prefer this book over the previous one if you have been diagnosed and want to do more in depth reading before you engage a therapist and/or coach. This book has enough case studies and stories to help you connect emotionally to the content, but also includes a lot of strategies and skills to live well with ADD/ADHD. Strategies involving diet, exercise, supplements, and habits to put into place immediately.
